Hosea 13

Ephraim’s Idolatry

1 aWhen Ephraim
Or spoke with trembling
spoke, there was trembling.
He cexalted himself in Israel,
But through dBaal he
Or became guilty
did wrong and died.
2And now they sin more and more,
And make for themselves fmolten images,
Idols
Or according to their own understanding
,
hskillfully made from their silver,
All of them the iwork of craftsmen.
They say of them, “Let the
Lit sacrificers of or, (among) mankind
men who sacrifice kiss the kcalves!”
3Therefore they will be like the lmorning cloud
And like dew which
Lit goes away early
soon disappears,
Like nchaff which is blown away from the threshing floor
And like osmoke from a
Lit window
chimney.

4Yet I have been the qLord your God
Since the land of Egypt;
And you were not to know rany god except Me,
For there is no savior sbesides Me.
5I
Or knew
,
ucared for you in the wilderness,
vIn the land of drought.
6As they had their pasture, they became wsatisfied,
And being satisfied, their xheart became proud;
Therefore they yforgot Me.
7So I will be zlike a lion to them;
Like a aaleopard I will
Or watch
lie in wait by the wayside.
8I will encounter them aclike a bear robbed of her cubs,
And I will tear open
Lit the enclosure of their heart
their chests;
There I will also aedevour them like a lioness,
As a wild beast would tear them.

9 It is your destruction, O Israel,
Or But in Me is your help
That you are agagainst Me, against your ahhelp.
10Where now is your aiking
That he may save you in all your cities,
And your ajjudges of whom you
Lit said
requested,
Give me a king and princes”?
11I algave you a king in My anger
And amtook him away in My wrath.

12The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up;
His sin is anstored up.
13The pains of aochildbirth come upon him;
He is apnot a wise son,
For
Lit it is the time that he should not tarry at the breaking forth of children
it is not the time that he should ardelay at the opening of the womb.
14Shall I asransom them from the
Lit hand
power of Sheol?
Shall I redeem them from death?
auO Death, where are your thorns?
O Sheol, where is your sting?
avCompassion will be hidden from My sight.

15Though he awflourishes among the
Or brothers
reeds,
An ayeast wind will come,
The wind of the Lord coming up from the wilderness;
And his fountain will azbecome dry
And his spring will be dried up;
It will baplunder his treasury of every precious article.
16
Ch 14:1 in Heb
Samaria will be held bcguilty,
For she has bdrebelled against her God.
beThey will fall by the bfsword,
Their little ones will be bgdashed in pieces,
And their pregnant bhwomen will be ripped open.
